Ayurveda is the science of life, a 5,000-year-old traditional holistic system of well-being from India. The word comes from a combination of ‘ayur,’ which means ‘of life’ and ‘veda,’ which means ‘knowledge.’ Ayurveda is the knowledge of longevity which offers healing, rejuvenation and self-realization through balanced food, herbs, yoga, massage, aroma and meditation.
Ayurveda teaches people to pay attention to how and what they eat, and to take responsibility for their health. Ayurveda is very clear when it comes to food. Sattvic (pure) food is needed to heal and maintain good health and must incorporate six tastes in every meal: sour, salty, bitter, astringent and pungent.
Modern medical science also recommends a vegetarian diet for good health and prevention of stress-related health problems. With its vegetarian menu and commitment to improving peoples’ lives, Ayurveda Café can help you beat stress, increase energy and look great.

This is a tough one. I look at other reviews and see a huge variance: many one-star and five-star. Honestly, i'm not sure how anyone could rate this place either. To me, five-star means everything was perfect and ideal. One-star means everything sucked. Neither is true here. The food was... okay. I was very disappointed in the portions generally. The 'appetizers' and the 'desert' came in shot-glass sized tiny containers. Ridiculously small, and I'm not a "pile it on all you can eat" sort of person. One appetizer was really just chopped lettuce (and tiny!) while the other was really just yogurt. The "entree" dishes were pretty tasty and decent sized. But nothing more than "good";... not 'Great" not even "really good" just plain old "okay". All in all, just very, very, very average-at-best. Not terrible, but certainly won't order again.

The menu du jour for 13.95 seemed like a good deal, but the appetizers were a basic green salad and bland soup (w/ obviously frozen veg). The entrees were OK but not up to par with other neighborhood Indian restaurants, and the dessert tasted of burned flour and spices--it was inedible. We won't order from Ayurveda again.

Good food- a variety of dishes and very reasonably priced. They repeat their fixed menu quite often though, I ended up getting the same curry three times in a row. Delivery is super-quick.

It's a good option for vegetarian if you craved for Indian food. I just hope the food is packed separately especially with the curry gravy. I like to eat my rice and gravy separately. Of course, this is individual preference. No big deal!

Great every time!

I love this place. The food is wonderful and ayurvedic meals always seem to satiate me unlike most other food that leaves me snacking 40 minutes later. The delivery is always prompt too. I wish there was one on the upper east side too!

as an indian person, I never order in Indian food, as i can cook it, but after hearing about the lovely home made indian served here, I decided to give it a try and I am hooked. Its yummy!

Food was generally bland. The only good part was the dessert.

Amazing! The lassies are pricey but good! Too bad when they don't have samosa. The samosa is delicious!

I think this may be the Upper West Side's best kept secret...Delicious, delicious food (yes, you can actually taste the love) and at $16 a meal, we eat two full plates for dinner with some left over for a late-night snack. (Just order a second pita bread and you're good to go) I will say that the Lassi, though mightily delicious, is on the expensive side. Hasn't stopped me from ordering it, though!

Two years ago, when I first started going to Ayurveda, it was a real treat to eat there from time to time. But over time, the quality has really dropped, and now the food there is abysmal and overpriced ($5.95 for a lassi?!?). I just ordered, and the food's taste was so unpleasant that I couldn't eat more than two bites, and had to throw out the rest. This place needs to go out of business.

They take the dilemma of what to order away from you with the pre-set menu, and it is always delicious.

I'm Indian, so naturally I'm quite critical about restaurant Indian food and I'm typically disappointed. Ayurveda Cafe's food was excellent. Its the quality I would get at home when mom and dad cook. It was fresh and tasty, and not oil-laden like most places. I highly recommend the food here.
